Long Island Resort Airport
Long Island Resort doesn't have its own airport but there are two other major airports that you can fly to, to access the island. There is the Whitsunday Airport at Proserpine (located just out of Airlie Beach) and the airport that is located on Hamilton Island, the Great Barrier Reef Airport.
The Whitsunday Airport is located right in the heart of Airlie Beach, the Whitsundays, Queensland. This multi-award winning airport offers visitors and the local community one of the most diverse and sophisticated general aviation airports in Australia. In conjunction with its 21 tenants, the Whitsunday Airport welcomes over 130,000 passengers per year on tours, transfers and adventure flights. There are daily flights with Qantas, Jetstar and Virgin Blue that come from Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Cairns to access the Whitsundays. From the airport a shuttle bus will meet and greet you which will then take you to Shute Harbour in Airlie Beach to jump on board a luxury vessel which will transport you to Long Island Resort.
The Great Barrier Reef Airport also has daily flights arriving with Jetstar and Virgin Blue and is slowly becoming the first port of call when accessing any of the other islands. When arriving on Hamilton Island and you are to transferred across to one of the other island a cruise vessel will be there to meet you to take you to your destination island.
Fantasea Cruises meet all flights for ferry services to Daydream Island, Club Med Lindeman Island, Long Island Resort and Shute Harbour on the Whitsunday Coast when you arrive at either airport. Other islands are accessed from Shute Harbour by private ferries.
Queensland Rail Traveltrain services include the Tilt and Sunlander Train, linking Proserpine to the coastal centres between and including Brisbane and Cairns. Connecting coaches operate to Airlie Beach and Shute Harbour.
The Bruce Highway is a part of Australia?s national road network. It links Queensland?s major coastal cities and towns, including Proserpine. Just north of Proserpine lies the turn off east to the 2 communities of Airlie Beach and Shute Harbour, and Hydeaway Bay and Dingo Beach, while further north the Bruce Highway reaches the town of Bowen.
Major coach operators include the Whitsundays in their regular scheduled services.
