Long Island Weather

Sunset

The Whitsunday Islands lay nestled behind the Great Barrier Reef about 30nm further offshore. This leaves sheltered waters, offering great weather conditions for sailing and diving virtually all year round. Long Island weather enjoys a tropical climate of hot summers, warm winters and bright spring and autumn days. Average daily temperatures range from just over 23 degrees Celsius in the winter months of June and July, and up to 30.5 degrees Celsius in January during the height of summer. Water temperatures remain a welcoming 25 degrees Celsius all year round. The tropical wet season occurs during January to March when days can be steamy and the summer heat is often broken by tropical showers.

The northern parts of Australia really have two seasons, not four like temperate zones ... the dry and the wet seasons. The wet season generally runs from December to March and the dry season the rest of the year. We get very little rain during the dry season, and even though we call it the 'wet season', this period doesn't bring consistent tropical downpours as the term brings to our imagination. In fact, during the 'wet season' we also have very little rain, but when we do get rain it is usually heavy and can last for a couple of days. Cyclones offshore or in other regions north of us will often bring a week of heavy rain, but that's about it.
